Vision Assist 1.0

Vision Assist was created to help the visually impaired walk safely by avoiding obstacles

In 2018, I constructed Vision Assist 1.0, and continued to improve the
solution with the award-winning device, Vision Assist 2.0, in 2019.

The Vision Assist is an arm-mounted prototype to help the visually impaired community move around safely. It uses a Raspberry Pi prototyping board, connected to an Ultrasonic Sensor and a Speaker. The Raspberry Pi interfaces with the Ultrasonic Sensor using a Python Program, which collects the distance data generated from the sensor. The program parses the data and produces alerts for objects directly at or under 5 feet from the user. The alerts are a series of beeps produced from the speaker, which change in intensity based on how close an object is. The Raspberry Pi, the Ultrasonic Sensor and Circuit, as well as the Speaker are mounted on a completely 3D printed housing, which is placed on the user’s arm.
